How GPS Point Proximity Validation Works
A GPS Point confirms presence near a saved map location without requiring a physical QR code or NFC tag. Validation happens when the user starts a GPS check-in in the mobile app.
Allowed distance and GPS accuracy
TARGPatrol calculates the distance between the device’s current location and the GPS Point coordinates. A check-in is accepted when the distance is within the 50-meter base limit plus the GPS accuracy reported by the device.
There is currently no per-Point radius setting. The effective boundary can therefore vary slightly with the location accuracy reported by the device.
Set up and test a GPS Point
Open a Location and create a Point with the GPS type.
Place the Point on the map and save its coordinates.
Enable location services and allow TARGPatrol to access the device location.
Open the task or available check-ins and start the GPS check-in near the Point.
Test the Point on a real device because buildings and obstructions can affect GPS accuracy.
What happens outside the allowed area?
If the user is too far away, the GPS Point is not completed. The app displays the distance and reported accuracy so the user can move closer or check location services.
Working offline
A device can obtain its GPS location without an internet connection. Check-in data is stored locally and synchronized when the connection returns. Location services and permission are still required.
GPS Point validation and GPS tracking are different
GPS Point proximity validation runs only when the user attempts a check-in. Optional GPS tracking is a separate feature for location logs and map visibility.
